Our Approach

At SheThrives Fund, we are dedicated to amplifying the voices of women-led NGOs in West Africa who are championing gender equity, advancing women's rights, and fostering community development. Our vision is rooted in the understanding that when women thrive, entire communities benefit. We envision a landscape where access to funding isn't a barrier but a bridge to boundless opportunities. Through targeted financial grants and capacity-building initiatives, we position women as leaders in their communities, empowering them to drive meaningful change. We understand the unique challenges women face in securing funds, and we stand ready to change the narrative. Together, we pave the way for a more equitable future, where the influence of women is defining the development of their communities!

Current Project: Empowering Girls Through Menstrual Health and Education

Our first grant supports Uman Tok Sierra Leone, a community-based organization working to empower women and girls through menstrual health education, reproductive health awareness, and economic opportunity.

The 12-month project will support 1,300 junior secondary school girls and 700 boys in two schools in Freetown, Sierra Leone, throughout the 2026–2027 academic year. At its heart is a simple but powerful goal: to help girls stay in school, manage menstruation with dignity, and gain the knowledge and confidence they need to thrive.

Uman Tok will provide 1,300 girls with reusable sanitary pad kits while delivering age-appropriate sexual and reproductive health education throughout the school year. Girls and boys will learn about puberty, menstruation, reproductive health, consent, sexual abuse, and respect—helping to replace stigma and misinformation with knowledge and open conversation.

The project also creates economic opportunity for 10–20 local women tailors, who will produce the reusable pad kits and earn income through their work. By investing in locally made solutions, the project addresses an immediate need while building a sustainable source of livelihood for women in the community.

Through education, access, and women-led economic opportunity, this project aims to improve school attendance, increase reproductive health knowledge, reduce menstrual stigma, and strengthen the wellbeing of girls, families, and communities.

Our investment in Uman Tok is an investment in girls' education, women's economic empowerment, and healthier, more equitable communities in Sierra Leone.
